You are helping people find fulfillment with the way they look and so it gives them their passion to contribute to their work as a very confident individual. You are the ignition that sparks their engagement in the real world. And when you embrace this creativity you can be confident to raise your prices accordingly.
Working for yourself gives you the privilege of make choices. Choices like being incredibly successful but you will have to learn manage yourself… and most aren’t prepared to do that. If you do decide to take the necessary steps to push towards real achievement you’ll soon discover that the hardest part is already over. The Decision!
So what are the actual steps necessary to push yourself up? Here are the ones that are absolutely necessary to your success:
1. Take your Customer Service to the next level:
Let me give you the gold nugget right off the bat… deliver better customer service to your client than they deserve.
Can you think of ways to actually do it? It shouldn’t be too difficult. A drink when they first walk in and are waiting to get into your chair. How about some little snack (anything homemade) from one of your friends that loves to cook. I bet you could have a friend bake you some home made cookies or brownies for next to nothing and you could surprise your customers with this treat. Do you think that they’d tell their friends about it? How ’bout yea!
How about you giving your customer some styling tips while they sit in your chair? Do they expect that? Oh here’s another easy one… send them a thank you card and they’ll fall out of their chair when it comes in the mail to their house. You do have your customers address don’t you? Shame on you if you don’t.
Taking your customer service up a notch is one of the easiest things in the world to do and here’s something to think about, very few stylists are willing to give themselves to this simple strategy. And if you really think about it, when you go to a shop for something, don’t you remember the person or place that gives you extraordinary service? I know you do because you’re in the service business.
2. Learn some proven Marketing Strategies
Marketing is more than having some business cards made and passing them out to folks. It also goes a lot deeper than putting your name in the yellow pages of your local phone book. People are always looking for the easy way aren’t they? But I know that you are different and so you will want to begin to study marketing strategies that will actually make a difference.
Did you know that there are proven marketing strategies that makes it so easy all you have to do it follow it like… paint by numbers? We all love to believe that it’s some kind of magical mystery tour that makes one salon “great” and all the others are just also ran’s. But the truth is that only a select few ever utilize real marketing strategies to bring in customers and develop their business with.
This is not just a one time deal that you print up some flyers but a planned continual organized effort to bring in customers until you decide you have enough, or are busting at the seams of your salon and have to find a larger shop for the overflow. Wouldn’t that be terrible?
Let me give you a simple marketing lesson right now… Ask your current clients to take a business card of yours and give it to two of their friends. And when these friends come in to you, call the customer that sent them and schedule them for a free cut. You just gained two new customers and now it’s up to you to deliver great customer service to bring them back and all it cost you was a hair cut. Simple.
3. Develop a simple system to Contact your Customers
I mentioned this earlier and now I want to drill down deeper on this subject. You must… let me repeat that; YOU MUST begin at once to collect contact information from all your current customers and when a new customer comes in just hand them a clipboard with a simple form on it so they can fill it out.
Will some of them balk? Oh yea, and then you say something like “I send out special pricing for my services from time to time and I just need your address so I can make sure you get it.”
More important to you is that you have this information to make sure that you can take a first time visitor and develop them into a loyal client. And this only happens when you keep in contact with them. And the other aspect of this contact system is that when your customer misses an appointment you can contact them by mail, even send them a coupon for a percentage off to come back in.
And I know that no one else does this, and that is exactly the point. This is how to jump head and shoulders above all the other salons in town. And all of a sudden you have your calendar full and the other salons are just trying to keep their doors open.
